The Mikumi National Park, located on the edge of the Selous, is known for its scenic landscapes and abundant wildlife. This 6-day safari is perfect for adventurers seeking an off-the-beaten-path experience.
Your safari adventure begins with a flight from Arusha to Selous Game Reserve, or a long drive if you prefer a road safari. Upon arrival, you’ll head straight into the reserve for an afternoon game drive, where you can spot large herds of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and lions. The Selous is also home to the endangered African wild dog. You’ll spend the night at a lodge or tented camp in the reserve.
Today, you’ll have a full day of exploration in the Selous. With its vast wilderness and unique safari activities, including boat safaris along the Rufiji River, you’ll have the chance to witness wildlife from different perspectives. The river is home to hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. In the afternoon, you’ll embark on another game drive to discover more of the reserve's wildlife. Overnight in the Selous.
After breakfast, you’ll depart for Mikumi National Park, a journey that takes approximately 4-5 hours. Upon arrival, you’ll enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park. Mikumi is known for its large populations of elephants, zebras, and impalas, as well as its predators, including lions and leopards. The park offers a great combination of wildlife and scenic beauty, with the backdrop of the Uluguru Mountains. You’ll overnight at a lodge or camp within the park.
Today, you’ll have a full day to explore Mikumi. With your guide, you’ll search for elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and various species of antelope. The park’s open savannah offers excellent game viewing, and the birdwatching is fantastic with over 400 species recorded. After a packed lunch in the park, you’ll continue your safari and return to your accommodation for the night.
This morning, you’ll have another chance for a game drive in Mikumi before heading back to Selous for the remainder of your safari. The afternoon game drive in Selous will allow you to explore the areas you may have missed on your first visit. Your guide will ensure that you experience the best of this incredible game reserve. After breakfast, enjoy a final morning safari in Selous before being transferred back to the airstrip or drive back to Arusha. Depending on your flight schedule, you’ll either take a flight to Arusha or enjoy the scenic drive back.
